Photo postcard of G.A.R. Encampment parade in Kokomo. From page 164 of "Howard County: A Pictorical History: by Ned Booher. - In 1908 Kokomo hosted the G.A.R.'s State Encampment, an event which attracted thousands of visitors. A highlight was the large parade. The events chariman was Orlando Somers, who became national commander of the G.A.R. in 1916-17. The Kokomo G.A.R. post was named after Thomas J. Harrison, Kokomo's only Civil War general. |
