Description |
Continental Steel buildings viewed through a chain-link fence, looking northwest from Leeds Street, on November 3, 1991. Notations by John Wilkinson: Metal skeleton frame to left was hot bed. Red hot steel billets were coming from blooming mill, so building was left open to help cool the steel. Building with red roof was the bloming mill. That's where raw steel ingots were rolled or hammered down to make billets of steel. To the right of blooming mill was old open-hearth furnaces with new melt shop to right of open hearth. |
