Believed to be at the retirement party for Mark A. Brown, President of Harris Trust Co. Four men standing in a row. From the left is "Bull" Durham, Mark A. Brown, an unidentified man, and General James H. Doolittle on the right. Gen. Doolittle was an honorary member of the Kokomo American Legion Post 6 from 1943 unitl his death. The following description accompanies the photo: "This image undoubtedly was made in Chicago, but the occasion is uncertain. It could have been Mark A. Brown's retirement party in 1956 from the presidency of the Harris Trust Co., one of the largest in the midwest or it could have been at a banquet of the Indiana Society of Chicago. In any case he is shown second from the left, while ex-General Jimmie Doolittle is at the right end. Brown was the greatest business genius that Kokomo ever produced, and Doolittle is famous for his surprise bombing from a B-25 of Tokyo during WWII. He once said his "adopted" home town was Kokomo." |
