B/w image of the Howard County Centennial parade alongd Walnut Street, on north side of Courthouse: policemen in formation, followed by American Legionnaires and U.S. Navy band. Kokomo Tribune, July 6, 1944: "Kokomo and Howard County began celebration of its Centennial with a mammoth street parade Tuesday afternoon. Shown ... is the Kokomo Police department squadron that led the parade just after the squad swung into Walnut street to pass the reviewing sand on the north side of the square. Immediately behind the policemen is Col. W. H. Unversaw, marshal of the parade, and his assistants. Just swinging around the corner onto Walnut street and show at the extreme right of the picture is the crack naval band from the Bunker Hill naval air station. The parade took one hour to pass the reviewing stand and gave the thousands of spectators who lined the streets a contrast of early-day vehicles and modern equipment." |
